About

Wait… what’s going on around here?

The MSH does not have a new home on the Web. We still live here, but jronaldlee volunteered to corral some important information into one place, and that’s flickrmsh.com. This site is meant to be a virtual reference book, a guide, or a side dish. The group page on Flickr will always be home.

Purpose of the group

On the first of each month there will be a list of 20 items that you need to catch in a photograph. Some months may have themes, most won’t. All through the month the members may access the voting booth and rate each photo on a scale of 1 to 10 using their own ideas about how the photo fits the category. Although this isn’t a requirement of the group, it’s fun and gives all members an equal chance at msh stardom. No videos allowed.

When you finish, be sure to look for your MSH Seal of Approval. You will receive yours once you have posted your finished mosaic in the discussion threads. However, henceforth (July 2008), there will be no seals of approval given in the first week of a new hunt.

The 1,000+ Voters Club

In order to show our appreciation to our members’ dedication to the voting process, participants who vote on at least 1,000 entries in any given month will receive yet another distinctive and exclusive award!!!

New MSH Slogan

Monthly Scavenger Hunt: It’s not just an obsession, it’s therapy! (thanks to suggestion by our own reknowned Barry Wallis)

Basic Rules

  1. The pictures you post have to be taken by you or in your personal archive. Photos only, No videos.
  2. You can add to the group pool at any time during the month but all photos have to be posted no later than 11:59pm (in your local time zone) the last day of the month.
  3. We do have some younger members, so please no porn or extremely foul language.
  4. Have fun!
  5. Only one photo per item, although you can have more than one item in a photo…see lucymay6‘s classic with 11 items in one shot.
  6. Please feel free to replace any of your photos as you’d like – but please remove the old photo from the pool, as well as the tags. The admins are very dependent on the tags to help sort everything out at the end.
  7. Have fun! Repeated for effect – If you’re looking for a highly competitive, cut-throat group, then please keep on looking. Every one of the admins and participants is here for one reason – to have have fun. We welcome all, and hope that you’re here for the same reason, as well.
  8. The admin are not responsible for assuring that your photos are posted to the group pool, or that your tags are correct. These two things are very important at the end of the hunt if you want your entries counted and voted upon. The member’s section of the Voting Booth can help you verify that your photos are being counted correctly.

Please note the tagging format here.

So you have a year’s worth of MSH mosaics to be proud of? Post them here.

Important definitions

  • RaHv is what we have decided is the French equivalent to “lol”
  • OMD a recent submission from Vaguely Artistic meaning Oh mon dieu!/Oh my god!
  • true2clue is a new term from wiccked to describe how closely an item fits a category for voting purposes. Taken from her reply in the pedantic comment stream: “a really great photo that is only somewhat true2clue is likely to get high marks, but a so so photo of the same thing would likely get low marks.”

(certainly more to come in the future)
